Veterans Inc., the largest provider of services to veterans and their families throughout New England, is looking for a professional, highly motivated, detail-oriented, and skilled individual to fill an Accounts Payable Specialist position and become a valued member of Veterans Inc. team!

Under the general supervision of the Business Manager, this position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all accounts payable payments and monitors expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices.


Accounts Payables Processing:

  • Reconciles vendor statements and seeks approval on all invoices and check requests.
  • Processes weekly checks runs, check requests and online payments.
  • Resolves invoice, payment discrepancies, and documentation.
  • Processes and verifies monthly employee expense reports.
  • Enters invoices into Financial Edge, assigns grants/cost center allocation as appropriate.
  • Updates and maintains all vendor information with in the Financial Edge database.
  • Maintains account payable files.
  • Disburses petty cash after verification of supporting documentation.


Other Accountabilities:

  • Process Temporary Financial Assistance (TFA) payments.
  • Provide clerical and administrative support as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


This individuals would be based out of 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.  All duties would be performed throughout the designated territory's surrounding cities and towns within the state.

  • Strong organizational, accounting, and time management skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, research and resolution skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact with employees and vendors in a professional manner
  • Ability to speak, write, read, and understand English fluently.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations such as percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division quickly and accurately


Education and Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of Associates Degree in accounting, business administration, or relevant field.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of accounts payable bookkeeping experience.
  • Experience with accounting software (CRM, Salesforce, Greater Plains, Financial Edge).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Financial Edge software.
  • Auditing skills preferred (preparation, auditing, reports)
  • Nonprofit accounting/finance experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of office management and Budget (OMB) Circulars pertaining to nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience working with accounting software and general cost accounting.
