Veterans Inc., the largest provider of services to veterans and their families throughout New England, is looking for a professional, highly motivated, goal-oriented, skilled, and hardworking individual to fill the Case Manager position and become a valued member of Veterans Inc. team!

Under the guidance of the Regional Manager, the Housing Specialist works as a member of the residential staff to build a network of community organizations, government agencies and property owners to secure living arrangements, negotiate rents, deposits, move-in terms and various other tasks to increase housing options for Veterans Inc. clients and their families.

 

This individual would be based out of 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.  All duties would be performed throughout the designated territory's surrounding cities and towns within the state (Central MA/Worcester, MA area.) This is a full-time position with full benefits (health, dental, vision, 403B, paid time off, short/long term disability and life insurance, etc.) 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Case Management: Partners with the GPD team to assess and coordinate housing stabilization services for veteran clients to assist Veterans to move into permanent housing. Provides advocacy, client education, and crisis management when necessary to prevent housing disruption. Assists veterans and their families with housing issues that may arise during the term of program participation, including repairs and/or services. Assists veterans with all aspects of managing tenancy, including collaboration with landlords.
  • Outreach: Develops and maintains a network of landlords who are interested in leasing housing to veterans and their families. Develops and manages referral networks and linkages with housing and resource service providers, homeless service providers, employment service providers, veterans' service providers, veterans' service organizations, municipal veteran service officers, VA, and others as appropriate.
  • Grant Goals and Reporting: Collaborate with Regional Managers, Site Coordinators, and the GPD team to meet the goals of the grant.  Develop and maintain database of landlords and resources, case notes, and reporting as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with persons of low income.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with veterans preferred; must have sensitivity to veterans-related needs and issues.
  • Sensitivity to people with low socioeconomic status and minority cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of local housing market in service
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws regarding housing and tenancy, highly valued.
  • Ability to interpret leases, housing laws and regulations and then communicate them to their clients.
  • Ability to network and provide a positive image for the program, provide empathetic support for the clients, while maintaining professional distance and objectivity.
  • Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to give presentations and speak in front of small to mid-sized groups about Veterans Inc. programs and services.
  • Strong conflict negotiation and resolution skills.
  • Frequent travel throughout New England required. Must have valid driver's license and own personal, reliable transportation.

 

 Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. A minimum of Bachelor's Degree in related field required.
  2. Two years' experience in counseling, outreach and case management, and/or services to the homeless, or a related field; or equivalent required.
  3. Outstanding communication skills and strong interpersonal skills, including techniques for positive motivation, handling difficult people, and teamwork.
  4. Knowledge of veteran and civilian resources available to persons in need of services.

 

Must be able to pass a CORI and background investigation.  Must be able to start within two weeks of receiving a job offer. Veterans and military service members are highly encouraged to apply!
